Theatregoers have been left outraged after three more Burlesque performances have been cancelled at Sunderland Empire.
The production’s performances on August 18, 19, and 20 have been axed due to "several primary cast members falling ill to a virus".
The announcement was made last night (August 18) hours before curtain-up.
The statement from Sunderland Empire said: "Unfortunately, performances of Burlesque The Musical are cancelled tonight, Tuesday, August 18, Wednesday, August 19, and Thursday, August 20.
"This is due to several principal cast members falling ill to a virus.
"We are bolstering the company with additional covers who have performed in the show previously to ensure we open on Friday.
"We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused."
These cancellations bring the total number of shows missed to five.
The musical had initially been due to begin at the theatre on Thursday, August 6, before the opening was pushed back by a week because of technical requirements.
The first performance was then due to take place a week later on Thursday, August 13, but was cancelled again due to technical difficulties.
The show went ahead on Friday, August 14, and completed three shows until it was cancelled on Monday (August 17).
Ticket-holders were quick to express their frustration at the cancellations.
One person left a comment under the announcement: "Absolutely furious.
"Cancelled on my first booking and now the second.
"I’ve lost £64 in rail ticket costs."
Another person said: "The producers should stop the tour and reschedule it when everything is ironed out and sorted for them to be able to deliver a production."
Sunderland Empire confirmed that customers affected will be contacted via email regarding next steps.
A spokesperson for the venue said: "Anyone affected by the cancellation of this week's performances, or previous cancellations during the run due to technical requirements, can request a full refund via the email they received.

Burlesque the Musical is based on the 2010 film starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.
