A police helicopter was spotted flying over Darlington and Newton Aycliffe last night as part of a training exercise.
The National Police Air Service (NPAS) chopper from Newcastle was out in the area at around 10pm.
A spokesperson for NPAS North East said the flight was part of routine training for their crew.
Many residents reported hearing the chopper circling as they tried to get to sleep.
The service provides aerial support to police forces across England and Wales, using helicopters and other aircraft to support operations including searches, pursuits and surveillance.
