A beloved County Durham family business is set to close its doors after more than 100 years.
Elves Fruit Store, on Church Street, Seaham will close on September 26.
The family-run shop has been serving customers in Seaham for more than six decades, with the family business itself approaching 100 years.
In an announcement on Facebook this morning, the store said: "After 60-plus years in Seaham and nearly 100 years in the family business, the time has come, and we will be closing on September 26, 2026.
"We wish to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers, staff, family and friends who have supported the business over the years.
"We hope to see some of you pop in over the next few weeks to say goodbye."
The traditional greengrocer will continue stocking fresh produce in the weeks before it shuts.
However, stocks of sweets and wool will be dwindled down, with customers urged to get their favourites and supplies before they are gone.
The store said: "Until then we will continue to stock fresh produce over the coming weeks like we have done for all those years and we will be dwindling down stocks of sweets and wool - so pop in and get your favourites and supplies before they are gone."
Upset customers have responded to the sad news.
One said: "Aw sorry to hear this, we will miss your shop. Wishing you all the best."

Another added: "Ahh this has always been my favourite sweet shop growing up. This shop will definitely be a miss, but I wish you the best."
One more commented: "Aww that’s a shame me and my kids grew up coming to your shop but good luck with your retirement."
