A row has broken out over claims that trees could be cut down to make way for a new cycle lane.
Reform UK’s Newcastle and North Tyneside branch alleged on social media that trees along Stamfordham Road in Newcastle are at risk of being felled as part of plans to build a cycle lane.
The group said: "Unbelievable, the Lib Dems who have the majority control in Newcastle City Council are planning to chop down all these fantastic trees on Stamfordham road in Newcastle to make way for Cycle Lane!"
The post also mentioned that yellow ribbons had been tied around the trees believed to be under threat.

According to the party, Chris Parsons, a local resident, is presenting a petition, which has gathered nearly 1,700 signatures.
However, Newcastle City Council has denied the claims.
Councillor Owen Burbidge, cabinet member for inclusive economy and skills at Newcastle City Council, told the Northern Echo: "We are aware that yellow ribbons have been put on trees down Stamfordham Road based on a mistaken belief that they are due to be felled to make way for a cycle lane.
"This is not correct."
"This administration has no plans to install a cycle lane on Stamfordham Road that would involve removing trees."

Councillor Burbidge said the council is open to discussions with councillors and residents about future transport schemes.
He said: "Any of the improvement works or travel initiatives will be delivered in consultation directly with residents.
"No scheme would proceed without genuine community feedback as part of the process."
He added that the council is reviewing its Movement Strategy and Implementation Plan to support a "connected, active city."
