Search the Public Notice Portal A global engineering and environmental consultancy has been chosen to help shape how communities, housing, infrastructure and economic growth are delivered across the Tees Valley for decades to come.
Stantec will lead the development of a new spatial development strategy (SDS) for the region after being appointed by the Tees Valley Combined Authority (TVCA).
The SDS is one of the first to be commissioned in England and will set out a strategic, long-term framework for growth, infrastructure, and economic opportunity across Teesside, Darlington, and Hartlepool.
Ben Houchen, Tees Valley Mayor, said: "For too long, planning has stopped at council boundaries when our economy, our transport network and the businesses investing here simply don't.
"This gives us the opportunity to look at Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool as a whole and plan properly for where new homes, jobs, infrastructure and investment need to go over the next 20 years.
"By working together with our five councils on one long-term plan, we can be much more proactive about unlocking land for development and making sure the roads, transport and infrastructure are there to support it.
"Stantec brings a huge amount of experience to this work and, importantly, already knows our region well.
"I'm looking forward to working with them to get this right and unlock even more investment across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool."
Stantec will lead a multidisciplinary team including communications consultancy Camargue, urban planning and design firm Prior + Partners, commercial property consultants Montagu Evans, and strategic planning experts Richard Wood Associates.
The team will bring together national expertise and local knowledge to deliver a strategy that addresses the region’s housing, economic, and environmental ambitions.

Spatial development strategies provide a high-level, at least 20-year, vision for regions.
They guide local plans to ensure coordinated delivery of housing, infrastructure, economic growth, and environmental improvement.
Stantec’s appointment builds on decades of experience in the Tees Valley across transport, energy, water, and community development projects.
