If you watch any TV on the BBC or anything that is broadcast live, you must have a TV licence for your household.
A TV licence currently costs £180, so if you are trying to save some money, you might be thinking about cancelling yours.

If you do decide to get rid of your TV licence, you can still watch a range of TV programmes.
You cannot watch the BBC live or on-demand without a TV licence.

Everything you can watch without having a TV licence
On the government website, it says: "You need a TV Licence to watch or record programmes on a TV, computer or other device as they're broadcast, and to watch on-demand BBC programmes on iPlayer."
This means that without a TV licence you can still watch a lot of programmes on-demand.
You can catch up on all of your favourite shows through All 4 and ITVX rather than watching them when they are first broadcast.
Many streaming platforms have hundreds of shows and films available that you can watch without a TV licence.
You can still watch all of the latest series on Disney Plus, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV.
However, you cannot watch any programmes that are streamed on things like Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and Sky Go if they are being shown live.
If you have DVDs or boxsets, you do not need a TV licence to watch them.
Who can get a free or discounted TV licence?
There are a few people who are eligible for a free or discounted TV licence.
If you are living in a residential care home, supported housing or sheltered accommodation, and are retired and over 60 or disabled, you can apply for a TV licence that only costs £7.50.
You can get your housing manager to check if you are eligible and they can apply for you.
You can also get 50% off your TV licence if you are registered blind or live with someone who is.
The licence must be in the blind person’s name and if it is not, you can easily get it transferred into their name.
If you are over 75 and get Pension Credit or live with your parent who gets Pension Credit, you can get a TV licence for free.
You can apply for a free TV licence when you are 74 and get Pension Credit.
You will continue to pay for the licence until the end of the month before your 75th birthday.
