Watch moment driver who caused 17-year-old boy to lose leg hits 100mph in 30mph zone

A man from Bradford who drove over 100mph in a 30mph zone and left a 17-year-old boy life changing injuries including the loss of his leg has been jailed.

Mohammed Khan, 25, failed to stop after hitting a teenager on September 16, 2024 on Halifax Road in Bradford, where he was driving over 100mph in a 30mph zone.

Khan fled the scene before removing his number plates from his Mercedes A45 and arranging for the vehicle to be recovered and hidden.

He pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving and perverting the course of justice and was sentenced to three years and four months in jail and banned from driving for five years and seven months.

Inspector Claire Gray from West Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Unit said, “This case shows that dangerous driving can lead to catastrophic results.

“People need to understand that speed limits are there for everyone’s safety and to blatantly ignore this is unacceptable.

“Our Roads Policing officers are committed to identifying and taking action against those who put themselves and other road users at risk.

“This is also about prevention. Our work forms part of the Vision Zero approach across West Yorkshire, which recognises that deaths and serious injuries on our roads are preventable.

“We all have a part to play in making our roads safer. That means making sensible decisions when driving and never putting a moment of excitement or a social media post ahead of the safety of yourself or somebody else.”
