Man due in court after being charged with manslaughter over dog bite death

A man is due to appear in court today charged with manslaughter following the death of another man who was bitten by a dog.

West Yorkshire Police said 55-year-old Lee ellis of Blacker Lane, Wakefield, has been charged with manslaughter and being the owner/person in charge of a dog dangerously out of control causing injury resulting in death.

He is due to appear at Bradford Magistrates’ Court later today (Aug 18).

The charges relate to an incident on the old trainline footpath off Blacker Lane on Saturday at around 1.30pm (Aug 15).

Police responded to reports a man had been bitten by a dog following an altercation. He was taken to hospital but died shortly after 7pm.

A statement from West Yorkshire Police said: “A German Shepherd dog seized as part of this investigation continues to be held in police kennels.

“The family of the 55-year-old man who died are being supported by specially trained officers.”
