Hundreds of solar panels are set to be installed on the roof of a York building following a council decision.
Plans to install 703 solar panels onto the roof of a Network Rail building in Clifton Moor Retail Park have been approved by City of York Council.
The solar array would have a capacity of up to around 358 kilowatt-peak, according to the application.
Council planning officers stated the works were deemed acceptable and they therefore had no objections to them.
Approval of the plans is set to see the solar panels installed on the roof of the railway body’s building at Unit Five, in Audax Road.
The panels are set to be installed in four areas on the building’s roof.
The site is home to Network Rail’s National Records Centre which houses the body’s archive of historical documents related to the UK’s railway network.
Council officials stated the height of the building meant the panels would not be visible from public viewpoints.
Planning officers stated: “The proposed solar panels would not appear out of keeping with the industrial character of the surrounding areas.
“The panels would not be adjacent to any residential dwellings.
“As such, it is not considered that there would be any loss of amenity as a result of any glare from the panels for neighbours.
“The scheme is thus assessed as being acceptable in both design and external considerations.”
