A popular Teesside restaurant known for its burgers, parmos and homemade Sunday roasts is shutting up shop, just one year after opening.
The Hungry Monk - which operates within Chapel in Linthorpe, Middlesbrough - shared the news in a heartfelt message on social media.
The owners thanked diners, staff and supporters who have backed the business over the past year.
They said that support from customers had "meant the absolute world" and that they would "never forget the incredible memories and wonderful times we have shared".
The post also paid tribute to the team at The Chapel, including Russell, Sarah, Ian and Jean, for their "unwavering support" and for making them feel part of the team.
The restaurant said: "We would also like to thank all of the wonderful staff who have looked after us, welcomed us, and made us feel so at home.
"You have all played a huge part in making our time at The Chapel so special."
While no specific reason was given for the closure, the business nodded to the challenges facing business owners across the country.
The restaurant said: "The hospitality industry is facing incredibly difficult and uncertain times, and the importance of supporting local businesses has never been greater.
"Please continue to support your local pubs, restaurants and independent businesses wherever you can. They are the heart of our communities."
The announcement sparked dozens of messages from disappointed customers, many of whom praised both the food and staff.
One customer wrote: "Devastated by this. Such lovely faces everyone loves to see when on shift.
"I've never eaten anything cooked by Sam that I didn't rave about for hours after."
Another said: "Oh this is just the worst news. Such a shame that amazing people serving the best food have to give up.
"It's such a difficult industry to work in these days."
A third customer thanked the team for helping with a recent event, writing: "Our eternal thanks for everything you done not only on the Sunday lunches but for the full days provisions and support at my recent 70th birthday bash at the Chapel."
The Hungry Monk closed up its kitchen at Chapel with immediate effect, with the main venue assuring customers that it will continue to operate as normal.
