A family-run North East restaurant has announced it is closing its doors, with owners saying the decision had been made with a "heavy heart".
Rumour Has It, based in Sunderland, confirmed the closure in a message to customers, saying it had become too difficult to continue running the business.
The restaurant, which has been running for about three-and-a-half years, thanked customers, friends, and staff for their support throughout its time in the city.
In a statement, the business said: "It is with a heavy heart that we announce the closure of our beloved family business, Rumour Has It Sunderland.
"The decision to close has not been an easy one, but it has simply become too difficult to continue."
The owners thanked diners for celebrating special occasions at the venue and said the support they had received during challenging periods had made their time running the restaurant worthwhile.
They said: "We are incredibly grateful to every customer, friend, and member of staff who has been part of our journey.
"Like any business, we have faced our share of challenges, but the overwhelming support, loyalty, kindness, and encouragement we have received over the past three-and-a-half years have made it all worthwhile.
"You have given us memories that we will treasure forever."
The statement paid tribute to head chef Chris Stobbs, manager Ruby, and Joanne, who the owners said they had worked alongside for seven years.
They also thanked the current restaurant team for its dedication.
They said: "We’d also like to thank every member of our current restaurant team for everything you’ve done.
"We couldn’t have done it without you.
"Thank you for allowing us to be part of your lives, for celebrating your special occasions with us, and for supporting our small family-run business through every challenge and every milestone.
"The friendships we’ve made and the memories we’ve created will stay with us forever."
The statement added: "We are not going bust. We have simply decided to close the business.
"With love and gratitude, Lynsey, Dave, Ruby and Leo."
Since announcing the news, many longstanding customers shared their support with the business.
One person said: "So sorry to hear this, always had lovely food here. Having had our own business in the past I understand the complications of running a business too.
"Wishing you all the best in the future."

Customers who have paid deposits for afternoon teas or future bookings will receive a full refund, the restaurant confirmed.
