Search the Public Notice Portal A main road through a North East town is set to close for six weeks for gas main works, according to a public notice.
Sunderland City Council plans to shut Gillas Lane West (B1260) from Hetton Road to Rainton Grove, in Houghton-le-Spring, to allow for the gas main works.
The closure will start on September 7, with the order lasting up to 18 months if needed.
However, the council estimates the work will only take six weeks.
During the closure, all westbound traffic will be prohibited from using the section of the road.

The only exceptions will be vehicles involved in the works and emergency service vehicles responding to an emergency call.
The council says alternative routes will be provided through the adjacent highway network.
The temporary traffic regulation order is being made under Section 14(1) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984.
