‘We found Ozzy!’ Missing Harrogate dog found after 13-day search

There has been huge relief for the family of missing Harrogate dog Ozzy after the nine-year-old Miniature Schnauzer was found safe following a 13-day search.

The news comes just hours after the Harrogate Advertiser reported that the desperate search for Ozzy was continuing, with his family urging people to keep looking out for him.

Ozzy disappeared from his family home in the Hookstone area of Harrogate on Wednesday, August 5.

After almost two weeks of worry and uncertainty, his family confirmed this afternoon that he had been found.

They said Day 13 had proved to be a lucky one.

Ozzy is now at the vets receiving care and support, with his mum, Christine Anderson, and those closest to him by his side.

His family said he is generally doing well, although he will need further care and they will provide an update on his condition when they know more.

The search for Ozzy had become a huge community effort, with people across Harrogate and the surrounding area sharing appeals, searching for him, putting up posters, speaking to neighbours and keeping an eye out for possible sightings.

His family has now thanked everyone who helped during the 13 days he was missing.

“A heart-filled massive thank you to each and every one of you, you all made it possible,” they said.

They also thanked everyone who had shared posts about Ozzy, told friends and neighbours, searched for him, put up posters or sent messages of support and best wishes.

The family said the response showed “what amazing things our community can achieve when we all support one another”.

Ozzy was confirmed to have been seen on Thursday, August 6, the day after he disappeared, on the railway tracks near Hornbeam Park station and the Crimple Valley viaduct.

The area was searched thoroughly but there was no sign of him.

A number of potential sightings were subsequently reported during the search, although none had previously been confirmed.

It is believed he was found in the Fulwith Mill area.

His family said: “Thank you for all your help and best wishes.”

They said the support from the local community had been overwhelming and had helped keep the search going until Ozzy was finally found.
