A WOMAN is recovering from her injuries and police investigations are continuing following an alleged assault in York city centre.
North Yorkshire Police says its officers were called after a ‘disturbance’ at the corner of Colliergate and St Saviourgate in York at 2pm on Monday (August 17) – which saw one woman taken to hospital in an ambulance and three people arrested.
The incident was witnessed by dozens of shocked onlookers in the busy area of the city centre.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing four police vans and an ambulance at the scene, with one additional van parked in nearby Fossgate – with the county’s police later confirming that the two incidents were linked.

A spokesperson for Yorkshire Ambulance Service said it received a call at 2.11pm to a report of an assault close to the junction of Fossgate and The Stonebow.

An ambulance service spokesperson said: "An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and one patient was conveyed to hospital."
A police spokesperson added: “The victim, a woman in her 40s, was taken to hospital for treatment.”
In an update on Tuesday afternoon police said the woman was now recovering from her injuries.

A North Yorkshire Police scenes of crime investigator was spotted working at the scene at around 6.15pm on Monday. A cordon remained in place into the evening around the seats next to the Co-op supermarket.
Three people were arrested in connection with the alleged assault. One woman is understood to have been arrested by officers outside Age UK in Fossgate, with a handbag brought out to the vehicle from inside the charity shop.
Today (Tuesday, August 18), police issued an update on the three pople arrested.

The force said that a 42-year-old man had been released under investigation and a 58-year-old woman had been released on conditional bail. A 50-year-old woman remained in police custody on Tuesday afternoon.
