A healthcare mutual has raised nearly £19,000 for charity through member involvement.

York-based Benenden Health donated £1 for every vote cast at its recent Annual General Meeting, totalling £18,741 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Members selected Macmillan as the charity recipient, making this the largest amount raised through the AGM voting scheme to date.

Tom Woolgrove, chief executive officer at Benenden Health, said: "This is what being a mutual is all about: members having a voice, helping shape the future of their Society, and coming together to make a positive difference.

"Every vote cast at our AGM mattered — not only in helping guide Benenden Health, but in supporting Macmillan's vital work supporting people living with cancer and their families.

"We are incredibly proud that our members have collectively raised £18,741 for a charity they chose, showing the real impact we can have when members make their voices heard."

The donation will support Macmillan’s work with cancer patients and their families across the UK.

Benenden Health also recently raised more than £3,000 for domestic abuse charity IDAS through the York Dragon Boat Race.

The scheme forms part of Benenden Health’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities and charitable causes.
