Queen Margaret's School, York: Former North Yorkshire private school 'sold to property developer'

A FORMER private school in North Yorkshire has been sold to a property developer over a year after closing its doors to pupils for the last time, according to reports.

The charity running Queen Margaret’s School for Girls, based in Escrick, York, which was founded in 1901, went into administration on July 7 2025.

The former independent boarding and day school, which is set in 39 acres, has been sold to Bradford-based Escrick Holdings Ltd, according to The York Press.

The agents have been approached for comment.

A spokesperson for Escrick Parish Council said: “All we know is that it’s been sold to a property developer. We will be informed (by North Yorkshire Council) if there is an application for change of use by the owner.

"It is very, very close to the village and I suspect residents will want to know what is happening with it. It is a beautiful building.”

The site, adjacent to the Escrick Park Estate, includes a Grade II* Listed former country house and a variety of buildings, including classroom and dormitory blocks.
