County Durham man released on bail after arrest over allegations including rape

A County Durham man arrested over allegations of serious offences including rape, child neglect and firearm offences has been released on bail.

The 30-year-old, from Chester-le-Street, was arrested on suspicion of rape, child neglect, possession of a firearm without a licence and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

He was arrested in Chester-le-Street on July 26 and had remained in police custody while enquiries were carried out.

Durham Police has now confirmed he has been released on bail while further enquiries continue.

A spokesperson for Durham Police previously said: "A man was arrested on suspicion of rape; child neglect; possession of a firearm without a license and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place in Chester-le-Street.

"The 30-year-old, of Chester-le-Street, remains in custody today while enquiries are ongoing."

The force has confirmed in an update that the man has since been released on bail while further enquiries are carried out.
