We’re on the hunt to find the best bakery in County Durham and Darlington.
From pies and pasties to sandwiches and sourdough, our region is home to some fantastic bakers and bakeries.
And today (August 17), The Northern Echo is launching its 'Best Bakery 2026’ competition in a bid to celebrate the best of the best.
Last year’s competition saw Shell’s Village Bakery in Ferryhill, which is run by Michelle Windress, scoop the top spot.
Now, we need your help once again to nominate your favourite bakery.
Readers can nominate their go-to business in the region using our online voting platform which can be found here.

Online nominations will run until this Sunday (August 23) and the top ten finalists will then be revealed in due course.
Readers will then be able vote for their ‘Best Bakery 2026’ by picking up copies of The Northern Echo between August 31 and September 12 as we profile each of the finalists.
