Harrogate fire crews tackle series of fires during busy weekend
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (NYFRS) had a very busy weekend across the Harrogate district, responding to a number of incidents including several unattended fires, a field fire and a request from ambulance crews to help gain entry to a residential property.
Friday August 14
At 12:21pm in Burn Bridge, a crew from Harrogate responded to a request from the Ambulance Service to gain entry to a residential property after the occupant had fallen inside and was behind the door.
Crews used a triple extension ladder to gain entry and assisted the paramedics with extricating the casualty to a road ambulance.
At 6:51pm in Ripon, the Ripon crew responded to a report of smoke sighted in an open area. On arrival, crews found a campfire measuring 0.5m x 0.5m.
Crews extinguished the fire using a bucket of water.
Saturday August 15
At 07:57am on Harlow Moor Drive, Harrogate, a Harrogate crew attended following a report of a small area in the open that was smouldering.
Crews located two small areas of fire, both of which appeared to be campfires left unattended. Backpack sprayers were used to extinguish the fires.
At 09:07am in West Tanfield, Ripon and Boroughbridge crews attended the area following a report of a field fire.
The crew confirmed this to be standing crops, with the area affected approximately 150 metres by 50 metres. Crews used hose reel jets and beaters to extinguish the fire.
At 2:04pm on Harlow Moor Road, Harrogate, Harrogate crews responded to investigate a fire unattended in woodland.
The crew confirmed this was a small fire measuring half a metre and used a knapsack sprayer to extinguish it.
At 3:52pm on Harlow Moor Road, Harrogate, Harrogate crews responded to a fire near some woods measuring 0.5m.
This was believed to be a campfire left unattended, and crews extinguished it using knapsack sprayers.
At 6:39pm at Dene Park, Harrogate, a Harrogate crew attended following an automatic fire alarm.
The alarm was found to have been caused by a small fire outside the premises, which had activated the alarm inside due to smoke.
At 9:27pm on Lichfield Grove, Harrogate, a Harrogate crew was mobilised to a report of a fire in a rear garden.
The fire crew advised the homeowner to extinguish the fire, which they did using a garden hose.
Sunday August 16
At 6:19pm on Oak Beck Road, Harrogate, a Harrogate crew was mobilised to a fire sighted in the open.
On arrival, crews found it to be a small fire. Crews used one hose reel jet to extinguish the fire. Advice was given to the person on scene.
