A licensing application for the new KFC drive-thru at Monks Cross Shopping Park has been lodged with City of York Council.

The venue, which is currently under construction, would open for take aways and deliveries from 9am to 5am daily if the application is approved.

Marsdens Catering of Sheffield Ltd, the company behind the licensing bid, stated there would also be tables and seating outside the restaurant.

It comes as a separate but related planning application was lodged by developers Lionacre to install 27 signs featuring KFC branding at the site.

Those plans are currently awaiting a council ruling.

The building which is set to house the drive-thru is currently under construction by the Lidl supermarket, in Monks Cross Drive.

AKN Build, the firm constructing the drive-thru, shared an update on social media in July which stated a number of key milestones had already been completed.

The company said on LinkedIn: “A great effort from everyone involved as the project continues to take shape.

“We remain ahead of programme and look forward to successfully closing out the project in the coming weeks.”

The licensing application is currently open for public comments until Tuesday, September 8.

A vacancy for a team leader at the Monks Cross site was listed on KFC’s website for £13.70-an-hour and closed for applications on Sunday, August 16.

KFC currently has one restaurant in York in Blossom Street.

A planning application to build an outlet of the American fast food chain in the car park of ASDA at Monks Cross was approved in 2022.

No updates have been shared publicly since the decision.
