A three-year-old girl has suffered serious head injuries after being hit by a car in York city centre.
The child was taken to hospital following the accident with a blue Volkswagen Golf on Tower Street, near Clifford's Tower, on Saturday evening, August 15.
North Yorkshire Police said it was called by the ambulance service at about 8.44pm.
Officers cordoned off the road while they carried out investigations at the scene.
As reported by The Press, the traffic-controlled pedestrian crossing near Tower Gardens was cordoned off.
Tower Street reopened at about 3am on Sunday.
North Yorkshire Police said: "The girl was taken to hospital with serious head injuries where she currently remains.
"Anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident but has not yet spoken to the police is asked to get in touch."
