Man charged with murder after missing Sheffield man found dead in Barnsley property

A 60-year-old man has been charged with murder after a man who had been reported missing from Sheffield was found dead at a property in Barnsley.

At 5:45pm on Friday (Aug 14), police responded to reports of a missing Sheffield man.

Later that day, at 10.16pm, police were then called to reports of the body of a man inside a property on George Street, in the Worsborough Bridge area of Barnsley.

Emergency services attended, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have said the man’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers at this time.

A 60-year-old man, Andrew Fowler, from Barnsley, has been charged with the murder of the formerly missing man.

He was remanded into custody and will appear at Barnsley Magistrates' Court on Monday (Aug 16).

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Police said: “As with standard protocol, as the man had previously been reported missing, a self-referral has been made to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).”
