Air ambulance attend serious crash in North Yorkshire

Drivers have been warned to avoid a main road leading to the North Yorkshire coast while emergency services deal with a road accident.
A crash has happened on the A171 Whitby to Scarborough road, near the Robin Hood's Bay turn-off on Robin Hood's Bay Road.
A North Yorkshire Police spokesperson said at 4.30pm this afternoon: "We are currently at the scene of a road traffic collision on the A171 between Whitby and Scarborough.
"Air ambulance are also in attendance. There is a build up in traffic in the area as the road has now been closed.
"Please plan a different route."

North Yorkshire Police issued the first warning at 4.45pm this afternoon, Sunday, August 16, but traffic in the area is growing.
Unconfirmed online reports from passers-by suggest a motorcyclist was injured in the incident but police have not provided further details.

A police spokesperson added: "Please use alternative routes where possible while emergency services work at the scene.
"Thank you for your understanding."
Drivers caught up in the congestion have been reporting gridlock on roads to Boggle Hole and Fylinghall.
Some of the vehicles caught up in the congestion around Fylingthorpe have used a field, with permission from the farmer, to pull over to help get traffic moving.
