A major police operation was underway in York city centre last night.
A large area on Tower Street next to Clifford's Tower was cordoned off and dozens of police officers were at the scene.

The focus of the emergency response was reportedly centred around the pedestrian crossing, which is controlled by traffic lights.
Unconfirmed online reports suggest a child pedestrian may have been struck by a vehicle, however police have not confirmed what happened.
Traffic was stopped from going down the road from both ends but pedestrians could still pass. A police cordon was in place near the turning to the Hilton Hotel and Castle Car Park.
