Stunning locations within easy reach of York captured in 11 great photos

Our gallery celebrates the variety and beauty of days out within driving distance of York.

With summer in full swing, we chose #outandabout for this month’s theme for The Press Camera Club and members have been sharing some of their favourite places from fresh perspectives.

From the peaceful paths and colourful planting of Helmsley Walled Garden to Knaresborough Viaduct rising dramatically above the River Nidd, this selection also features the bracing coastal beauty on the walk from Thornwick Bay to North Landing at Flamborough, where wide skies meet chalk cliffs and the North Sea.

Closer to home, York Minster appears twice: its remarkable Five Sisters Window offers a quiet moment of historic detail, while a view from Exhibition Square shows the cathedral dominating the city skyline.

Elsewhere, a high vantage point frames Holgate Windmill against a spectacular sunset, turning one of York’s best-known landmarks into a striking silhouette.

Finally, a wooden carved feature at Askham Bog, celebrating its 80th anniversary, provides a reminder of the wildlife-rich green space preserved just beyond the city centre.
