York enjoyed a very rare event today (Sunday).
It rained.
It wasn’t a particularly heavy or long-lasting shower, but it was something of a first during this incredibly hot, dry summer.
While Yorkshire has not officially made it into drought, it is in “prolonged dry weather” status – the stage before drought.
And temperatures have regularly gone beyond 30°C in heatwave after heatwave.
All this has had a dramatic impact on what was, until a few weeks ago, and green and pleasant city.
