A North Yorkshire care home worker is preparing to take on the Great North Run to raise money for a charity supporting older people and adults living with disabilities and mental health conditions.
Elliot Thompson, a general assistant at Scarborough Hall Care Home, will run the 13.1-mile half marathon on September 13, to raise funds for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.

The foundation, established in 2000, supports older people and other adults living with a disability or a mental health condition by helping them to connect or re-connect with others in their local communities.
Mr Thompson said: "This is my first Great North Run and my first time fundraising for the Foundation, but I have been training hard and I can't wait to take part.
"I'm hoping to raise lots of money for the Foundation.
"I know all the staff, residents and relatives at Scarborough Hall and my friends and family are all behind me, and their support plus the money I'm raising will help me go the distance."
He joined Barchester Healthcare in 2023 and said he has always enjoyed running, though this will be his first time taking part in an organised challenge of this scale.
The Great North Run begins in Newcastle upon Tyne and takes thousands of runners over the iconic Tyne Bridge.
Scarborough Hall Care Home is part of Barchester Healthcare, one of the UK’s largest care providers, supporting more than 14,000 residents across 272 homes and hospitals.
