A County Durham garden centre has received glowing reviews from customers.

Pity Me Nursery and Tea Barn has an almost perfect rating of 4.3 stars from more than 500 Google reviews.

The centre, on Stank Lane in Durham, offers a variety of plants, flowers, trees and herbs all freshly-grown from local sources and a range of garden decorations.

One review said: "Excellent nursery and tea shop.

"Very wide range of plants, including made up baskets, very reasonably priced.

"Can't praise this place highly enough."

The café, The Tea Barn, receives consistent praise from customers.

Another five-star reviewer who visited the tea barn with family said the food was "excellent", at a "good price".

They added: "We also bought quality meat, bread and cakes from the shops.

"All the staff were friendly and made us welcome.

"Will definitely call again."

The café, which has a wood-burning stove, provides a range of products, including sandwiches, jacket potatoes, homemade soups, fish and chips, full English all-day breakfasts, and hot drinks.

A highlight for a lot of customers appears to be the in-house bakery offering homemade cakes, pastries, doughnuts, quiches, bread and more.
