Beamish Museum welcomes about 800,000 visitors every year, so it is no surprise that it takes a team of more than 500 staff and about 400 volunteers to keep it running.
The County Durham museum is once again looking for new people to join its team, with jobs currently up for grabs.
Beamish is recruiting seasonal cleaners for its facilities team and is also promoting a paid creative placement with Durham Wildlife Trust on its website.

Seasonal cleaner
Beamish is looking to recruit seasonal cleaners to join its facilities and cleaning team.
The successful applicants will work across the museum site to maintain standards of cleanliness, helping to ensure a welcoming and enjoyable experience for visitors.
The role pays £13.01 an hour and is available on contracts of between zero and 37 hours per week.
It will run until December 31, 2026.
The job listing says: “This is a hands on, public facing role requiring flexibility, including early mornings, evenings, weekends and school holidays.”
Applicants are encouraged to show how they meet the requirements in the application form.
Beamish is looking for people with cleaning experience or transferable skills, as well as a positive attitude and a willingness to work as part of a team.

The closing date for applications is August 23, 2026, although Beamish has said it may close the vacancy early if it receives a high volume of applications.

Creative placement opportunity
A paid eight week creative placement at Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve in Chilton Moor is also advertised on the Beamish website.
The placement is being delivered with Durham Wildlife Trust through the Into the Light Creative and Cultural Skills Hub, which supports people of all ages into paid work experience in County Durham’s creative and cultural sector. Beamish is one of the founding partners.
The successful applicant will work 20 hours per week for eight weeks and will receive £254.20 per week, subject to statutory deductions.
A £25 weekly travel bursary will also be added to their pay, subject to deductions.
They will research the stories behind Rainton Meadows, including its wildlife and links to the area’s industrial past.
The listing says the placement holder will speak to visitors and communities, while helping to identify creative ways to bring the reserve’s stories to life.
Possible projects could include visitor trails, maps, signage, information panels and storytelling resources.
The opportunity would suit people interested in heritage, conservation, cultural project management, community engagement, visitor experience, environmental education or public engagement.

Applicants must submit a short CV and a letter of no more than 500 words explaining why they are interested in the placement and what they could bring to it.
The closing date is Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with the placement expected to begin in late August or early September.
