Kevin Sinfield: New challenge for Sir Kev as rugby league legend set to star in pantomime

He is a true sporting hero who has raised millions for charity. Now Sir Kevin Sinfield is planning a new challenge – pantomime.

The Rugby League icon and charity campaigner has been officially announced as the voice of The Giant in the Carriageworks Theatre’s family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk.

A spokesperson said “The former Leeds Rhinos skipper hit Leeds-based Our House Studio this week, lending his commanding voice to the fairytale antagonist and bringing the super-sized character to life.”

Produced in partnership with Paul Holman Associates (PHA) Jack and the Beanstalk runs at the theatre from Friday, November 20, until Sunday, January 3.

Speaking on his upcoming panto debut, Sir Kevin said: “Leeds has been such a huge part of my life, professionally and personally, and the city will always hold a very special place in my heart.

“I’ve faced a few giants in my rugby career, but voicing The Giant is a new kind of challenge, and having the chance to be part of Christmas for all the families that will be paying a visit to the Carriageworks Theatre over the festive season is a real privilege. I can’t wait for audiences to come along, boo The Giant.”

Celebrated across Yorkshire and beyond for his remarkable sporting exploits and extraordinary fundraising efforts for Motor Neurone Disease (MND) charities, Sir Kevin took time out from preparations for his final fundraising challenge in honour of his late friend and former teammate Rob Burrow, who passed away from MND in 2024.

Recently knighted, the Super League star has already raised £11m for Motor Neurone Disease charities in memory of Burrow, and will tackle his final fundraising challenge in September, running an ultra-marathon every day for seven days.

Sir Kevin also donated his panto fee to the charity.

Both Sir Kevin and Rob Burrow were chosen to receive the freedom of Leeds, the city’s highest civic honour in 2022.
