A man has been arrested after a person tried to grab a child on a bike in Hartlepool.
The incident took place on Grosvenor Street just before 4pm on Friday (August 4) when a man reportedly approached a child.
He then attempted to grab the youngster, who was on his bike, and was detained by a member of the public.
When officers arrived, a 40-year-old British man was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnap and was taken into custody for questioning.
Cleveland Police has now lunched an investigation, asking anyone who was in the area at the time and may have footage to come forward.
Detective Inspector Iain Pearson said: “I understand how concerning this will be for the local community and I want to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident.
“There will be local neighbourhood officers patrolling the area to provide reassurance and I encourage anyone who may have concerns to please speak to them.
