Plans have been submitted to South Tyneside Council to convert 66A Stanhope Road, located in the West Park ward, into a licensed bar with seating and toilets.
The site was most recently used for financial services and previously operated as a dessert delivery takeaway.
A planning application states that some permissions are already in place, including a licence approved by the council earlier this year.
The proposal is now seeking formal planning consent for a change of use.
If approved, the micro bar would operate from 10am to 10pm Monday to Thursday, 10am to 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11am to 10pm on Sundays and bank holidays.
The development is expected to create one full-time job.
