Hartlepool MP tells Royal Mail ‘do your job’ as he rejects free cocktail invite

A North East MP has criticised Royal Mail after being invited to a cocktail event - and says "do your job".

Hartlepool MP Jonathan Brash turned down the invitation to the 'Signed, Sealed, Sipped' event, organised by Royal Mail at the annual Labour Party conference in Liverpool.

Mr Brash said: "Hi Royal Mail, thanks for the invitation that was successfully delivered to my office today, but until you start delivering for my constituents, I’ll pass on the free drinks, thanks.

"In the words of Roy Keane, 'do your job' - P.S. our posties do a great job, they are not to blame."

Royal Mail offered to meet Mr Brash to discuss his concerns.

A Royal Mail spokesperson said: "We regularly meet MPs to hear directly about the issues affecting their constituents and to discuss the work we’re doing to improve our service."

They added: "We would also be very happy to meet Mr Brash directly to discuss any concerns he has, either in his constituency or at Westminster after the parliamentary recess."
