A POLICE incident has closed off a usually busy footpath and cycle route near York city centre.
A police van is guarding the scene by the entrance to the footpath and cycle path on Wigginton Road near the junction with Crichton Avenue.

A cordon has been put up today, Saturday, August 15, to prevent people from accessing Foss Islands Path near the junction of Crichton Avenue and Wigginton Road.

Officers are currently at the scene guarding the cordoned off area while a police vehicle is parked up at the junction with Dennings Mews, a small residential street.

Police officers said they were unable to comment when approached by The Press at the scene.

The footpath would usually take allow people to pass under a bridge beneath Wigginton Road.
