An Acomb mum is planning to launch a delivery service of home cooked tiffin.
Haina Shaikh is preparing for a new future, running The Tiffin Box York.
It will feature a variety of Indian meals and snacks.
Haina told the Press: “I am a mother and, until recently, I had been looking for a job in York while also looking after my young child.
“It was difficult trying to balance work and childcare, and after becoming tired of searching for the right opportunity, I started thinking about how I could contribute financially while still being able to manage my family responsibilities.

She continued: “Cooking has always been something I enjoy, and my family and friends have always complimented my food and encouraged me to cook more. That made me think: why not turn something I already love doing into something that could also become a small business?”

“The idea for The Tiffin Box came from wanting to provide people in York with the kind of homemade food that feels comforting, fresh and satisfying, while also creating something of my own that could help support my family financially.
Haina presently works part-time in a grocery store while she works on developing The Tiffin Box. The business is in the preparation stage and she is working towards launching ‘soon’.
The Tiffin Box will offer fresh, homemade Indian-style dinner tiffins, with both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options.
Haina said: “We are planning a changing menu rather than offering the same dishes every day, using fresh ingredients and preparing the food daily. Our non-vegetarian options will include halal chicken.
“A tiffin is traditionally a meal packed into a reusable lunchbox-style container, with different compartments for different parts of the meal. For us, The Tiffin Box is about bringing that idea to York in a convenient way, while keeping the food homemade and freshly prepared.
“What we hope will make The Tiffin Box different is the personal, homemade approach. This isn’t about mass-produced food. We want customers to feel that they are receiving a proper home-cooked meal, made with care, good ingredients and generous portions.

“We are currently preparing everything needed for the launch, including our packaging, menu and ordering system. We don’t want to rush the launch, as we want to make sure everything is ready before taking our first orders.”
Haina added: “For me personally, The Tiffin Box is more than just a business idea. It is an attempt to turn something I love doing into an opportunity to support my family and build something of my own while being a mother.
“We are very excited to see whether people in York will enjoy what we have to offer.”
