Six offenders who target shops were among defendants sentenced recently at York Magistrates' Court.
Neil Friar, 44, of The Laurels, Barlby, pleaded guilty to stealing meat worth £231, meat worth £210, and meat worth £227.50, all from Tesco, alcohol worth £238 from Marks and Spencers, washing liquids worth £56.50 from The Food Warehouse and failure to attend court.
He was given a 12-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months on condition he does 10 days’ rehabilitative activities and 40 hours’ unpaid work. He must pay £154 compensation to Tesco.
Steven Cullip, 51, of Highfield Villas, Sherburn-in-Elmet, pleaded guilty to stealing beauty products from Boots in Selby, food and alcohol worth £22 from Marks and Spencer in South Milford, and assaulting a woman.
He was given a 12-month community order with 40 days’ rehabilitative activities and must pay £22 compensation to Marks and Spencer.
Jonathan Paylor, 47, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to stealing alcohol worth £28.75, £6.50 and £10 and laundry items worth £56 on separate occasions from the Co-op in East Parade and assault of a man and attempted theft of alcohol at the Co-op in Union Terrace.
He was jailed for 12 weeks.
Joseph Hunter Smith, 38, of Water Lane, York, pleaded guilty to handling a stolen pressure washer, burglaries of a sandwich chain, an industrial unit and a salon, theft of power tools from a man and obstructing police.
He was given a 52-week prison sentence suspended for two years on condition he does six months’ drug rehabilitation treatment and 25 days’ rehabilitative activities. He was ordered to pay £350 compensation to the salon and £250 to the sandwich chain.
Robert Oakley, 45, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to trespassing in a residential property with a Stanley knife and burgling a shop in Westborough, Scarborough, in which he stole cigarettes, tobacco, alcohol, radios, cash and chocolate worth £4,000.
He was jailed for six months and ordered to pay a £154 statutory surcharge.
Lauren Chadwick, 31, of Thoresby Road, Acomb, pleaded guilty to two charges of breaching a criminal behaviour order by entering Morrison in Gale Lane, York, and a One Stop shop on Knaresborough Road, Harrogate, from both of which she is banned, stealing items worth £24.50 from Morrisons and items worth £68 from One Stop.
She was given a 16-week prison sentence suspended for 12 months and ordered to pay £92.50 compensation to the two shops.
