The continuing heatwave is having an effect on activities in North Yorkshire.
Selby Fire Station has cancelled its open day on Sunday.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said it’s because of the hot weather, and because crews have been exceptionally busy over the past week responding to a high number of operational incidents.
And the annual Fireworks Championships at Newby Hall on Saturday 22 August has been dropped due to the ground conditions.
Meanwhile the North Yorkshire Moors Railway is continuing to operate diesel locomotives only.
This is to prevent the likelihood of track-side fires caused by their steam trains.
Today is the last properly hot day for a while.
The weather is due to freshen tomorrow, when York’s top temperature is forecast to be 24°C.
It’s likely to stay in the low 20s all week – with the possibility of a shower or two.
