A restaurant serving Scottish inspired food at a County Durham shopping centre is set to close this weekend, little more than a year after opening its doors.
Cafebar eighteen38 at Dalton Park, near Seaham, will permanently close on Sunday (August 16).
The venue only opened in July 2025 and was the Scottish chain’s first site in England.
In a statement on social media, the company said: “We’re sad to announce that our cafebar will be closing its doors, with our final day of trading being this Sunday.
“This is not an easy goodbye. We want to say a huge thank you to every member of our staff, past and present, for all your hard work, dedication, laughs and memories. We simply couldn’t have done it without you.

“And to all of our wonderful customers thank you for your support, loyalty and friendship over the last year. Whether you popped in every day or just visited now and then, you’ve all been a huge part of our journey and helped make 1838 what it was.
“We’d love to see as many of you as possible before we close, so please come in and join us for one last visit this weekend.
“Dalton Park, it’s been a pleasure.
“Thank you for everything.
“Kirsty, Louise and David.”
The café and bar restaurant opened on July 25, 2025, serving Scottish inspired food including breakfast dishes, steaks, burgers, pizza and cocktails.
It also featured outdoor dining and a Hot Rocks experience, allowing customers to cook their own steak at the table.
At the time of the opening, managing directors Kirsty Weir and Louise Campbell said the Dalton Park venue was an “exciting milestone” for the business.

Following the closure announcement, customers shared their sadness on social media.
One person said: “Its such a shame you are closing; it's a beautiful venue, gorgeous food and had live music- perfect combination. It's a shame more people didn't visit.”
Another added: “Sad to hear this, we always had lovely food and service and enjoyed the live music.”
