The final countdown is under way to this year’s Middlesbrough Mela as the UK’s longest-running festival of its kind returns to Albert Park this weekend.
Taking place on Saturday, August 15, and Sunday, August 16, the free two-day event runs from noon to 7pm on both days.
Now in its 36th year, the nationally recognised multicultural festival promises a packed weekend of music, food, family entertainment, and cultural experiences.

Kash Patel, executive director of Middlesbrough Mela and curator of the main stage programme, said: "I'm extremely excited for what promises to be yet another mega Mela here in Middlesbrough.
"The build is well under way, with teams working all hours to ensure the festival is ready to open on time.
"We have a fantastic new Main Stage, complete with thrilling pyrotechnics, ready to welcome our amazing local, national and international performers.

"Even our Stall Bazaar has completely sold out, so there's going to be a real buzz around Albert Park, with a hive of activity throughout the entire weekend.
"All that's missing now is the great British public – we can't wait to welcome over 50,000 visitors to experience the colour, culture, music, food and sheer magic of the Mela."
This year’s line-up includes a renowned tribute to pop legend Michael Jackson on Saturday and international super star Miss Pooja, one of the world’s most talented female Punjabi artists.

The main stage will feature a mix of international headliners, home-grown talent, dance performances, and family favourites.
Beyond the music, the Mela is known for its bustling shopping bazaar, international food and drink, free cultural workshops, and a giant funfair.
There will also be an extensive programme of children’s activities designed to keep younger visitors entertained throughout the weekend.
The festival draws visitors from across the region and beyond, offering a unique blend of live entertainment and cultural celebration.

BBC Asian Network returns as the event’s official broadcast partner and host, delivering live coverage, competitions, giveaways, and entertainment throughout the weekend.
Organised by a Community Interest Company, the Mela has been a highlight of Middlesbrough’s cultural calendar since 1990.
It offers an inclusive, family-friendly environment and a valuable platform for businesses and traders to reach new audiences.
