More than £34,000 has been donated to charities and community causes by one of Darlington’s largest charitable organisations after what it described as an “excellent year” of fundraising.
Darlington Rotary, which operates on a July to June calendar, raised and donated a total of £34,629 during the past year.
Jane Bradshaw MBE, last year’s president of Darlington Rotary, said: "It has been a fantastic year of successful projects and fundraising, which has seen us donate to many mainly local causes.
"All credit goes to the members, who have undertaken so many ventures and initiatives.
"But we have also had a lot of fun doing it, with many social events and visits."
The group, which has more than 70 members, is the biggest group in the North East and, at 102 years old, one of the longest serving.
Most of the funds supported organisations in the Darlington area, including St Teresa’s Hospice, Family Help, The Listening Post, food banks, and the Kane’s World Foundation.
The club has also established a number of life-saving defibrillators across the borough.
Support was also given towards toy boxes and awards for outstanding young people.
Darlington Rotary also supported overseas causes, including financial aid for the international programme at Darlington College, donations to Mercy Ships, a school in Kenya, and the End Polio Now programme.
Mercy Ships operates hospital ships delivering medical care in some of the world’s most underserved regions.
Iain Anderson, incoming president of Darlington Rotary, said: "We have had an excellent year and I’m looking forward to building further on the magnificent work undertaken in 2025/2026."
