A LARGE tree branch has fallen on a car in a major road through York.
It happened in Haxby Road on Thursday (August 13) with the incident thought to have taken place opposite the junction of Markham Street with the tree coming down from nearby Clarence Gardens.

As these photos sent in by a Press reader show, the branch fell on a dark red Fiat 500 which seems to be in the middle of the road rather than being parked up.
Haxby Road is a busy route, close to York Hospital and the Nestle factory.
It follows another incident earlier this month which saw a mature tree fall in Walmgate last week, landing on a residential outbuilding but causing no lasting damage to the structure.
In that instance, arborist Jack Mallon could not say what caused the damage but suggested it “could be rot”.
“We tend to get summer branch drops anyway, so we’re reacting to stuff like this all the time,” he said. “It’s always different reasons – it’s quite hard to tell unless it has a survey done on it.”
In hot weather, trees are commonly affected by sudden branch drop syndrome, also known as summer branch drop, which is a natural occurrence where large, seemingly healthy trees can unexpectedly break and drops a heavy limb during calm, hot, and dry weather.
City of York Council has been contacted for comment and we'll add it here when we hear back from them.
