Police called after man enters river in York

POLICE have been called to York city centre after a man was spotted in the river.

Multiple police vans were seen in Piccadilly shortly after 10.30am on Thursday (August 13).

Officers could be seen observing the man, who was "waist-deep" in the water

The man could be seen in the River Foss from the bridge.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said: "He was waist-deep in the water against the wall.

"Officers were seen keeping an eye on his activity."
