York Racecourse has announced that The Queen will attend the opening day of the Sky Bet Ebor Festival.

Her Majesty will visit the racecourse on August 19 and is expected to meet members of the community and some of the "unsung heroes" who help deliver one of the sport’s top events.

The festival will run from August 19 to 22, with a prize fund just shy of £7.5 million.

William Derby, chief executive and clerk of the course, said: "The Sky Bet Ebor Festival is simply the highlight of our year, with the prospect of some spectacular racing action.

"We are all working towards our flagship and cannot wait to welcome everybody to the Knavesmire.

"I very much hope racegoers, connections, bettors and viewers will enjoy the feast on offer."

Each day will feature a Group One race, including the £1.5m Juddmonte International.

The race has been named the Longines Best Race in the World three times.

The Ebor Festival will also feature the Grantley Hall Ebor Fashion Lawn, entertainment from the RAF Falcons parachute display team, and a variety of musical performances.

The event will be broadcast to a global audience of 500 million households, with coverage reaching Australia, the USA, Japan, Dubai, and much of Europe.
