The Piano is a much-needed tonic in a troubled world
I really enjoy watching and listening to the TV programme, The Piano.
So nice to have a relaxing, joyful, non violent programme.
ALL the contestants at all the railway stations from seven to 93 years old are talented and have achieved so much in their lives despite many bad starts, illness, setbacks, disabilities and have had great family support in most cases.
They are ALL an inspiration, and ALL deserve to be winners and Claudia Winkleman is right to call each pianist "brilliant"!
In this grim world this whole programme is a much needed tonic!!

All victims’ families deserve equal sympathy
As much as I have sympathy with the family of PC Harper over the early release of his killers from jail, surely the same level of sentiment should apply to the families of those who have also lost relatives to manslaughter upon seeing the early release of their killers.

We must prepare for a drier future
I learned at school about the Ancient Egyptians irrigating their crops during times of drought.
I learned first hand, while working in The UAE, that due to a policy of extensive desalination of the sea, that you can always have a shower, always have tap water to drink, and always be able to water your garden.
The UAE is a desert and they have learnt how to manage their limited water.
The UK is having more and more dry summers and crops are failing. Possibly it's time to look seriously into adopting irrigation and desalination practices?
