Another milestone for PS5 emulation.

No console required, but you do need a PlayStation Plus Premium subscription.

Sony confirms that its stance has not changed on ending the production of physical game discs for titles released after January 2028.

The PS5 emulation scene is showing extremely impressive progress, with 3D titles now being playable at around 30 FPS just two weeks after the first 3D titles even became bootable.

This could help ensure that PS3 games remain playable even if all PS3 consoles no longer exist.

Milestone after milestone.

A Change.org petition urging Sony to keep making physical PlayStation games has passed 172,000 signatures.

Meanwhile, the largest petition against the disc cutoff sat beyond 74,000 signatures on the morning of July 4th, closing in on its 75,000 goal.

Sony is shutting down PSN for PS3 consoles next year, so preservationists are being asked to wake up from their slumber to archive everything before it's too late.

While Nintendo remains a holdout, this announcement essentially sounds the death knell for physical media in cutting-edge gaming.
