Police are hunting for a male after a “stolen” vehicle crash that left a Durham Police officer injured.
Officers were called to the Burdon area of Sunderland just before 6.45am on Wednesday (August 12) after reports of a vehicle being taken from a property.
Durham Police launched a search for the vehicle and it was spotted in the Cooperative Terrace area just after 8.30am.
While an officer approached on foot and attempted to secure the suspected stolen vehicle, it was driven away and collided with an unconnected parked vehicle, injuring him in the process.

Six boys – aged between 13 and 17 – were arrested in connection at the time and have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Now, Northumbria Police is trying to locate a person who was pictured in the area at the time. Officers believe he may be able to assist them with their enquiries.
Cooperative Terrace has since been re-opened and officers remain in the area to carry out enquiries and reassure the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Fenney, of Northumbria Police, said: “Thank you to everyone who has so far provided information towards our investigation.
“We have carried out a number of lines of enquiry already and would ask that anyone with further details please get in touch so that we can piece together exactly what took place.”
