A new coffee shop honouring a former soldier's grandfather will open in Middlesbrough.

Ben Rae, who served in the Army for seven years, will open his own coffee shop Hedley's Coffee Co., in Nunthorpe later within weeks.

The café is named after Ben's late grandfather, Peter Hedley, who inspired him to start his own business.

Ben said his grandad was: "A man who loved a good cup of coffee and inspired more in me than he'll ever know.

"Opening this place in his name means everything."

The new business will offer a variety of products, including speciality coffee, matcha drinks, iced teas, freshly baked goods, and sandwiches.

The building at The Avenue Shops has been under renovation for several weeks, attracting the curiosity of local residents.

Ben has been sharing updates on the transformation of the building via the business's social media channels.

He said the positive response from locals has been overwhelming.

"We have had a lot of interest in the last few weeks and I'm glad people are as excited as we are," he said.

As part of the opening celebrations, visitors will have the opportunity to sample different products and meet the team.
