Two properties were 'deliberately' smashed into in North Ormesby overnight, with police treating the incidents as linked.
The first happened on Pilkington Street around 11.30pm when a vehicle crashed into an address.
Cleveland Police said it was found abandoned at the scene after the suspects fled.
No one was injured, but the property is being assessed by structural engineers.
Shortly afterwards, just after 11.45pm, officers found a home on McBean Street had also been struck by a vehicle.
The property was unoccupied and will also be examined to assess its structural integrity.
Both incidents are currently believed to be linked.
Middlesbrough’s local policing superintendent, Marc Anderson, said: "Enquiries into both incidents - which we are currently treating as targeted and linked - are ongoing today, and the local community will continue to see our officers in the area conducting enquiries and providing a reassuring presence.
"I would appeal for anyone with information about who may have been responsible for these incidents or the circumstances surrounding them to get in touch.
