A mini golf course at a County Durham shopping centre is set to close at the start of next month, less than two years after it opened its doors.
The Hole In Wand at Dalton Park, near Seaham, will permanently close after the school holidays, on Sunday, September 6.

In a statement on social media, the mini golf site said: "Wizards and Witches, it is with sadness that we will be saying a fond farewell to the North East and Dalton Park on Sunday, September 6.
"We have loved being part of the centre’s offering over the last two years and thank all who visited our magical mini golf, apothecary and Little Wizards’ play area.

"We will still honour all bookings made up until September 6th.

The site opened in October 2024 to excitement from families across the region, with the nine-hole course near Cineworld, promising golfers riddles and a unique adventure inspired by local landmarks like Penshaw Monument and Lumley Castle.

The mini golf course also offered a Little Wizard experience designed for toddlers and young children, featuring a wand shop, wizard kitchen, ball pit, and a café offering confectionery, potions, and merchandise.

It's been less than two years since The Hole In Wand opened.
At the time, Stuart Jarman, Managing Director of The Potions Cauldron Group, called it a "truly enchanting experience for visitors of all ages, blending fun and adventure with a touch of wizardry."
Following the announcement about the closure, people have reacted to the news, calling it "devastating" and "a real shame", with many people thanking the mini golf course for serving the community.
