A Ferryhill man has admitted driving dangerously in a head-on crash which left a couple with serious injuries.
The air ambulance was called after the crash on Whitworth Lane in Spennymoor on November 21, 2023.
Stephen McGuinness was facing trial at Durham Crown Court this week, accused of two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving, which he denied at the court last April.
But on Monday (August 10) his counsel, Shaun Dryden, asked if the charges could be put to his client once more and the 51-year-old, pleaded guilty on the facts outlined in the prosecution case.
It arises from a head-on crash involving his Peugeot 207 and another vehicle in which a couple suffered serious injuries.

Four people were taken to hospital at the time.
Judge Richard Clews adjourned the case and bailed the defendant, of Watt Street, Ferryhill, to return for sentence on September 18.
The judge also issued an interim driving ban on McGuinness, the length of which will be determined at the sentencing hearing.
